INTERNET AND TV
Internet: https://www.bt.com/broadband it likely to have best options. (I get about 75mbps down/15 up, and it costs me about £46pm).
I haven't had a landline phone plugged in for years - who even
speaks on the phone these days! Whatsapp rules!
Once you know where you are likely to be living, use this website to check on what broadband options are available at that location:
https://availability.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker?address=true (it'll need the postcode)
TV: Unless you are into football, you won't get a lot of other sports reliably. If you *need* a sports tv, then https://www.sky.com/shop/tv/ is probably the way to go.
https://www.virginmedia.com/
might be another option for TV + broadband.
You are probably watching a LOT of TV to justify the fees
for Sky or Virgin, imo.
The free-to-air broadcast channels are free to watch, and all
you need is an antenna and a digital TV.
Freesat is the same thing, except using a satellite dish, and a slightly different mix of channels. (If your house has a dish, and not arial, then this might be a good option.) https://www.freesat.co.uk/
- BBC: They are funded through your TV licence. You pay an annual licence fee for the property: https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/ . The up-side is that that means no adverts on BBC!!!! And you get access to iPlayer.
- BBC has a bunch of channels. Most significantly, BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, News and regional variations of One and Two. https://www.bbc.co.uk/
- ITV network has ITV, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, and possibly others. https://www.itv.com/hub/tv-guide
- Channel 4 Network has Channel 4, Film4, E4, More4 and a bunch of music channels. https://www.channel4.com/tv-guide
- Channel 5 has Channel 5, 5Select, 5Star, Paramount and Smithsonian, et al. https://www.channel5.com/tv-guide/
Almost all these networks have an on-demand streaming service,
so you can watch most of their shows, after they have been broadcast, online. Also known as Catch-up TV.
BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All4, My5 – check each of the links
above
99% of what we watch is on Amazon Prime, BBC iPlayer, and Netflix. For us, "live" broadcast TV is limited to one nature show, and maybe the Queens speech. But even then, we probably just watch it later on iPlayer anyway. Oh - and YouTube ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajeyZfs-vIs
(Smart TVs have all these services built in, so no need for additional
boxes.)
